Federal League

Our Federal League (often referred to as Afeez De Boss) is the top level of our football league system in Nigeria. Contested by 20 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation. There are 20 clubs in the Afeez National League. During the course of a season (from May to August) each club plays the others twice (a double round-robin system), once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents’, for 38 to 40 games.

Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw. No points are awarded for a loss. Teams are ranked by total points, then goal difference, and then goals scored. If still equal, teams are deemed to occupy the same position. If there is a tie for the championship, for relegation, or for qualification to other competitions, a play-off match at a neutral venue decides rank.

In addition to the winner’s trophy and the individual winner’s medals awarded to players who win the title, Afeez National League also issues other awards throughout the season.

• A man of the match award is awarded to the player who has the greatest impact in an individual match.
• Monthly awards are also given for the Manager of the Month, Player of the Month and Goal of the Month. These are also issued annually for Manager of the Season.
• Player of the Season. and Goal of the Season. The Golden Boot award will be given to the top goal scorer of every season.
• The Playmaker of the Season award is given to the player who makes the most assists of every season, and the Golden Glove award is given to the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets at the end of the season.
• Players will also receive a milestone award for 100 appearances and every century thereafter and also players who score 50 goals and multiples thereof.
• Each player to reach these milestones will receive a presentation box from the Afeez National League containing a special medallion and a plaque commemorating their achievement.
